The Rancho Laguna Dairy is located on 255 acres
in west Santa Rosa along the spectacular Laguna de Santa Rosa in Sonoma
County, CA. Rancho Laguna has 500 cows and also raises its own replacement
heifers. Art and Diane also farm 150 acres of corn which is used as feed
for the cows.
Art’s father, Fred Lafranchi, emigrated from
Switzerland in 1910, and in 1920 started a dairy in Marin County with
his wife, Zelma Dolcini, who was from a pioneering Marin County dairy
family. Art’s family bought Rancho Laguna in 1962, and he and Diane have
created a corporation which allows for some ownership to be transferred
to long-term employees to ensure its survival.
“Clover treats us very well and
they are extremely fair to us as producers. I feel like a real partner
with Clover and gladly accept Clover’s high standards that ensure top
quality milk. Clover’s North Coast Excellence Program is exceptional. It
lets the consumer know we embrace farming practices that are good for
the environment and we are proud of the fact our dairy is on the cutting
edge of the industry to ensure a healthy product.”
