The McClure Family Dairy is located on
1400-acres in the Point Reyes National Seashore Park in Marin County,
CA, where they milk 450 cows. The McClure’s have been in the dairy
business on the Pt. Reyes Peninsula since Bob’s great-grandfather, James
McClure emigrated here from Ireland in 1889. The Pt. Reyes National
Seashore Park bought the McClure Dairy in 1971 and offered the dairy
family a long-term lease to continue farming the land.
Bob McClure and his wife, Ruth run the farm
with help from their three daughters Jeannette, Michelle and Alyssa, as
well as Bob’s mom and dad, Arlene and Ronald. Ronald is in charge of
farming 500 acres of silage used to feed the cows., Arlene is an
advocate of the dairy industry through her involvement with North Bay
Dairy Women Ruth is in charge of accounting, payroll, tax reporting, and
is very active in California Women for Agriculture as well as being on
the Sonoma-Marin Fair Board of Directors. The McClures are proud to be a
viable part of the North Bay dairy industry.
”Its not easy country to
have a dairy. The constant fog and wind make it a challenge, but the
cows sure love it.”
“I go to the store and see a lot
of people buying Clover milk. I personally know all of the dairy
producers whose milk gets put into the Clover carton. It's the best milk
out there and I am very proud of that. Consumers want to know where
their milk comes from and that the milk they buy is the highest quality.
Clover’s NCE standards are tough, but well worth it.”
