George and Dora McClelland, and their
daughter, Jana, run their dairy ranch on Bodega Avenue in the Two Rock
Valley in Sonoma County, CA, carrying on the dairy farming tradition
started by George’s parents Robert and Lillian , who emigrated from
Ireland in the early ‘30s. Robert and Lillian started the family dairy
in Marin County in 1938 and in 1965 moved it to its current location in
Two Rock.
George is proud his children are carrying on
the dairy tradition. Jana, a graduate of Agriculture Business from Cal
Poly, San Luis Obispo, is now in charge of managing employees,
implementing safety programs, overseeing show and registered cows, as
well as running the breeding and genetic programs. Their son, Robert and
his wife, Jolynn, have their own organic dairy in Valley Ford in western
Sonoma County and are also Clover Stornetta producers.
“Clover Stornetta Farms is on the
cutting edge of sustainable agriculture and has created a niche market
for our high-quality milk. We will never be the biggest dairy, but we
will be the best. The Clover Stornetta North Coast Excellence (NCE)
program sets us apart from others who don’t have our quality. It shows
we care about our cows and the environment.”
